Please watch the two videos on this page. Above is my response to watching the video this morning that is posted below. William Adams is an Aransas County Court judge in Texas who was videotaped by his daughter (who suffers from ataxic cerebral palsy) as he brutally beat her with a belt. What makes this even more disturbing is that he handles child abuse cases and he defended himself on a local Texas TV station. He said , “In my mind I have not done anything wrong other than discipline my child when she was caught stealing. I did lose my temper, I’ve apologized” READ MORE

Thank you for sharing this. I agree with you Angela. Your message is very important about the statute of limitations being eliminated. The video is extremely disturbing and it definitely crosses the line (not that I would ever become physical with my children in any kind of discipline). It was disturbing the degree to which he was harming her and swearing at her and his rage, and that he said she used to be a shy, obedient child. Very disturbing that he handles child abuse cases. And that the mother did not stop it, but participated. This is very sad. It’s also very triggering.

TAKE HIM OFF THE BENCH!

He has no right to hurt that child like that. He should be tied to a post and let the people in town beat him. I can’t believe the mother stood there and watched, it’s like she enjoyed it and then for her to hit her in the same way, she is no better than the father. They both belong in jail and he needs to be taken off the bench. I can only pray to god that he keeps on watching over these children. We need new laws to prevent this from happening again, all laws on child abuse should be the same in every state. They need to be strong and enforced and no one I mean no one should ever be able to get away with it not even a judge……… Please judge go and rot in hell and your wife too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

This atrocity truly shows the power that one has over another, doesn’t it? This “man” is a powerful judge! His daughter is 16 and very vulnerable. The “mother” supports the husband whether she wants to or not. Who is the daughter to tell? One of the rules is that even if she had told someone at school they would have had to inform the parents. She would have been back to square one; only worse! It is a vicious cycle just like the abuse itself. Believe me when we tell it is often not appreciated. We are the ones that get shunned by family, school officials, religious organizations, community at large for exposing the truth. It’s bad enough when we’re an adult, but, to be a child and tell it’s so much worse. There is not a lot of support. Laws and enforcement doesn’t always work, either. The abuser tends to be sided with as you can tell by some of the responses. She didn’t “obey” the father therefore she got what she “deserved”. She may have been taken from the home and ended up in a similar situation instead of him being arrested and taken out of the home and supports put in place in the home for her. Many people have been murdered because they told. “How dare you tell what goes on in the sanctity of our home!” She is a brave soul for exposing the truth now. She is a true advocate of truth. Justice, hopefully, will follow.

This was absolutely horrible to watch. I was not going to re-post it because I found it very triggering, but then I realized how much the world needs to see things like this even thought it is so hard to watch. The physical abuse was not only awful, but the things he was saying are absolutely textbook power and control, the fact that the child’s mother participated broke my heart. I am amazed at the girl’s bravery in capturing this on video. I hope this spurns massive public action to remove that awful man from the bench.

Angela, I am glad that your commentary is here and that you are urging that all states remove statute of limitations for violent crimes against vulnerable persons, especially disabled minors.
I watched the video on November 3, as well. What is very disturbing to me, is that the Aransas County prosecutor’s office would not pursue criminal charges against this judge by addressing the violent abuse inflicted on a permanently disabled teen. In Texas, the statute of limitations extends to ten years for crimes against elderly, disabled and other vulnerable persons.
It is another example of disregard towards the disabled, most especially when a violent crime has been committed by an officer of the court (the judge).
The county attorney’s office could have pursued indictment by using Texas statutes for crimes against vulnerable persons (in this case Ms. Adams ataxic cerebral palsy). But I hate to say it: they are protecting the wrong person.
Any criminal act of violence is wrong and harms all of society.
